Charity Program

In 2006 the Yekelela Charity Program was initiated. With the help of several sponsors, Barbara and Patrick were able to help orphans and other disadvantaged children to get an education. Many of the children in South Africa lose their parents due to Aids or other fatal diseases. On the whole these children are taken in by family members that struggle to pay for the extra mouths on board. Money for education is often not available. Even with the school fees being mostly subsidized by the government, the uniforms required remain expensive. With the help of friends and family Barbara started to help these children by getting people to sponsor them to be able to go to school so that they may finish their matric (final exams). The main ideology behind this charity program is that education will lead to better jobs and better future prospects. Therefore education is a way to alleviate poverty in a long-lasting and hopefully permanent way.

Yekelela Charity has since joined forces with the "Sponsor an Angel" program.
Please check for more information on www.sponsoranangel.org
So far the Yekelela Charity program has been able to raise funds towards school uniforms, school shoes, outings and fees. Most sponsors have taken it upon themselves to donate a yearly amount of between 65 and 100 euro’s. Different sponsors will be linked together to provide for the education of one child. The people who sponsor the child will get access to information about the progress of the child via the “sponsor an angel” website using a password and username. Information is updated about every 6 weeks.
